In the span of just one day,

our Service Areas, described below,
positively impact the quality of life for hundreds of seniors throughout Story County.

Activity & Resource Center
The Activity & Resource Center provides a comfortable place for older adults to socialize, relax, and participate in a variety of planned activities, including computer instruction, exercise classes, band, chorus, book clubs, card clubs, and field trips.   In just one day, the Activity & Resource Center may serve up to 70 seniors, through chorus, band, computer lessons, day trips, group exercises,  etc., fulfilling their need for learning, socializing, and living a quality life. 

Adult Day Care Center
The Adult Day Care Center provides social stimulation and organized daily activities with limited supervision and low to moderate nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.  The goal  is to provide assistance to families who desire to keep loved ones in the home.   In just one day, 25 participants will arrive from all corners of the county for a full day of social interaction, physical/mental
stimulation and nursing services.  Their caregivers are able to go to work or take respite, knowing their loved ones are in the caring hands of expert staff.
Meals for Seniors
Nutrition is a big part of staying healthy over 60. 
In just one day,
the Nutrition Department will serve about 170 people at eight meal  sites throughout Story County and deliver 90 meals directly to seniors’ homes.   In some cases, this provides their only opportunity for a hot, nutritious meal.
Outreach
Outreach specialists make personal contact and offer assistance to over 200+ older adults each month. Programs include: friendly visitor, bill payer, and gatekeeper. Assistance is available with energy assistance forms, rent/tax reimbursements, farmer’s market certificates and Medicaid applications.
In just one day, three Outreach Specialists will make approximately 20 phone contacts with the frail elderly of the community and personally visit 15 others, linking them to necessary community resources.
Transportation
Transportation services are provided throughout Story County to residents of all ages, but are primarily used by residents over 60.  With a 13 vehicle fleet, rides are provided for doctor’s appointments, dialysis, congregate meals, grocery shopping, errands, or leisure.
In just one day
, the Transportation Department will provide 200 county-wide rides.

Heartland receives the majority of its funding from United Way of Story County, Iowa, and other governmental entities, with funding recommendations provided by ASSET.  ASSET (Analysis of Social Services Evaluation Team) is a collaborative effort of the City of Ames, Story County, United Way of Story County, Iowa State University Government of the Student Body, and the State of Iowa.  ASSET promotes coordination of human services planning and funding by assessing the needs for human services programs in Story County, evaluating the capabilities of agencies to provide the programs, and providing funding recommendations.

In addition, Heartland Senior Services Foundation has been established to received financial contributions on behalf of Heartland Senior Services, in the form of wills, estates, annuities, life insurance or cash contributions. Gifts to the Heartland Senior Services Foundation are used to build the endowment fund, which is invested for the agency's future stability.
