Questions and Answers about Community Trivia Night!
Tests scare me! Will I be put on the spot?
Each round of questions consists of 10 assorted questions. The teammates at each table put their heads together and decide on the best answer. They write it down on one paper and submit it. No one besides your tablemates ever know your individual guesses.
What if I can’t recall information fast enough?
You will have 7 others who will help pull that buried piece of trivia out of your brain! And you all have the length of the round to come up with your answers and change your minds.
Is there an age limit?
We have had players enjoy our trivia nights from age 12 to close to 90. We suggest that the hearing impaired sit close to the front if possible. The questions are all read aloud and may be repeated. The questions are devised so that all age groups are involved.
What if I am more comfortable associating only with people of my own age group?
Your team may certainly all be from the same age group but a diversified grouping will probably cover more trivia ground. A mixed group is a great way to see the value of all ages and make friends outside of your usual boundaries. It is found that teenagers are a needed team commodity and that they really enjoy the music and sound clips, often of their era. (There is a charge for children 10 and over.)
What if trivia just isn’t my thing and I don’t think I can contribute much?
Well, maybe you could be the snack bringer and the encourager! We always need fun people at the table. Maybe you could gather a team around you and bask in their glory! Besides you will walk out the door knowing so much more than when you walked in!
May I just observe and not play?
No, we require everyone to get involved at a table. However, if you are interested in participating as a volunteer for the event, please contact us ahead of time to see how you may help.
Is there enough parking?
There is lots of parking in the church parking lot at Oakwood Road Church.
Is there an elevator?
The dome auditorium is completely ground level.
What if I don’t travel alone at night any more?
Have you ever heard of the Heartland bus or carpooling? (-:
I am just too busy to spend 3 hours on a Friday Night socializing. Would I just be wasting my time?
Bonding with friends and refreshing your memory about interesting facts will be very worth your time. You will probably find it a rare and joyful opportunity to gather in the community and interact personally.
What if I can’t find a full team?
It is fun to do this with people you know but also a great chance to meet new people. If you can’t find a team, just call ahead and we will plan on placing you on a team that needs another player(s). The more heads, the merrier… up to eight!
Will it be an alcohol/smoking free event?
Yes. Come and encourage an alternative way to enjoy a Friday night.
Is food served?
Each table is invited to bring snacks for the team to munch on while they think. Coffee will be available.
Is it worth my $10?
Actually, you may just be one of three lucky tables to win a cash prize ($150-$50) or a door prize from a generous community business! But you will be guaranteed to get your money’s worth out of just the fun you will have! And to top it off, the proceeds go to Heartland Senior Services whose mission affects everyone throughout the age continuum. For example, Heartland helps aging seniors to remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible. But HSS is also a great resource for younger seniors who are actively seeking growth and wider horizons as well as for younger people who are looking for answers for their aging parents. Even the youth have vested interest in learning from and helping those of their grandparents’ era.
