Volunteers are utilized in many Heartland programs throughout Story County.
Adult Day CenterAssistants help with various activities, morning coffee, lunch, baking, crafts, exercise, one-on-one visitng, and more. |
MarketingAssistants help with PR in the areas of market research, advertising, photography, Web site, brochure design, etc. |
Activities & ResourcesProgram leaders help with bingo, computers, writers worshops, dances, exercise groups, grounds maintenance, Wii instruction, and more. |
Nutrition Home-delivered MealsVolunteer drivers deliver hot meals in 14 Story County communities and Rural Ames. |
Congregate MealsSenior meals site attendants work at meal sites in Ames, Colo, Huxley, McCallsburg, Nevada, Story City, and Zearing. |
OutreachFriendly Visitors: Positive individuals help meet the needs of isolated elderly by socializing or assisting with simple tasks. Bill Payers: After screening and training, volunteers participating in this program will assist seniors with writing checks and sorting bills. Other volunteers in this area assist seniors with filling out forms and completing paperwork. |
Heartland uses approximately 800 volunteers annually! Last fiscal year (2010-2011), volunteers came from 14 Story County communities, serving seniors in their local communities and beyond.
