One of the keys to health and happiness is a good meal. Heartland has two options for seniors in Story County to receive daily, hot meals.

Meals on Wheels of Story County

Meals on Wheels of Story County are for seniors that need a hot meal delivered to their home in order to stay living independently. This need may be temporary after an illness or hospital stay or more long-term for seniors who no longer cook.

Friendly Lunch Bunch

Other seniors are looking for good conversation and the socialization of gathering around a table with friends. Heartland’s Friendly Lunch Bunch gathers at 205 S. Walnut Ave. in Ames and provides low-cost meals and socialization for seniors who want to get out for a meal.

Meals on Wheels of Story County

a service of Mary Greeley Medical Center and Heartland Senior Services

In conjunction with Mary Greeley Medical Center, we provide Meals on Wheels of Story County to individuals unable to make their own food, short-term or long-term, throughout all of Story County. Volunteers bring a well-balanced hot lunch to a senior’s home. In addition to the delicious meal, the delivery offers an opportunity for a friendly visit and a safety check.

Meals are prepared by the Dietary Department at Mary Greeley Medical Center and delivered by trained Heartland volunteers. To sign up for meals or learn more about this program, please contact Shala Harsh, HSS Outreach Director at 515-233-2906 x218.

“We heard about Meals on Wheels and tried it — what a lifesaver. We are so thankful for the hot meals delivered to our door by folks who are now friends. The variety of tasty meals is wonderful. Don and I both appreciate the help.”
